    Jonsered 2083

Here is one you do not see too often, or can find out too much about on the interweb. New to me as of last week, one previous owner from new, was sold with low compression issues- so yeah, it was cheap. From the era when Partner still had some influence in the Electrolux stable, all began with...

    Hypothetical Question?

Just built or rather repaired a real nice orange 266........ In my understanding, the Champ might be closer to the Orange 268? I can drill a hole for a pulse- pull the nipple out of one of the many busted Stihl cases laying about the place- but that still leaves me with the smaller 61 carb which...

    Changing clutch on Husqvarna 135

Could it be, the new chain was ordered online and you have the grown up version of 3/8" chain and not Low Pro 3/8" chain? Do not get too hung up on the idea the saw must run 91 PX056E- all you need be concerned with is correct pitch, correct gauge and correct drive link count. Pitch = correct...

    Changing clutch on Husqvarna 135

Okay, I will admit- I missed it was a 135 and my mind registered 136 or 137 that I am more familiar with. The 136/137 comes with a 0.050 3/8LP 16 inch bar- usually. Your 135 is wearing a 14 inch bar and is still 3/8LP but should still be 0.050mm gauge. Your spur drive is correct- the code...

    Changing clutch on Husqvarna 135

Okay- this is just a wee bit odd- but possible, should be a standard fit 3/8 Low Pro chain, probably with low kickback safety rakers, 14" should be 0.050 gauge and 52 drive links. Need photos of the information stamped on your bar, they will be close to or under the clutch cover. Could it be a...

    Hypothetical Question?

Would be nice if the original 670 cylinder, intake, external pulse and larger carb were all there- but it is what it now is. Over here things are on a much smaller and way more expensive scale when it comes to saw parts. New ones were and still are prohibitively dear and Jonsered was never as...

    Hypothetical Question?

Apparently so- I have not seen it in person, but have been told cylinder intake and carb all swapped over from the poor cousin 61. Owner thinks he binned the original Jonsered parts, but cannot remember.

    Hypothetical Question?

Exactly, no carb mounted high idle on the system that has been retro fitted and no trigger catch on the Jonsered tank that remains. It hasnt been the greatest of fixes by the current owner, but it was a fix that got the saw running again and you know what it is like trying to find parts here. It...

Been around chainsaws for a decade but some things I don't understand

Well, if a saw sits on a shelf in a garage for 364 days of each of those five years and does an hour or two's cutting for that other day of each of those years- it might last five years! Heck I can run in conditions where I might wear a chain out in five days, sometimes 5 weeks and if not used...

    Hypothetical Question?

Lets say I have the chance to pick up a Jonsered 670 Champ- or rather what once was a 670 Champ and is now a lamb in wolves clothing? Lets say the owner has removed and discarded the cylinder, piston and intake tract from the donor 670 and replaced it with the internals of a Husqvarna 61...

    New Old Files

Only thing that cuts better than a new file- is good quality new old files! Got given these today by someone that was doing an estate clean up/ clean out and knew I messed about with chainsaws. :)

    MS200

Found an interesting wee saw for sale- kind of locally. Never seen one in the flesh before, but knew they existed- I guess some home gardeners have some gnarly Rose bushes?

    Surges then bogs with throttle

Google an IPL for the PP 4218 A and you will find an exploded parts diagram of the saw. These are handy when you try to figure out what went where when you go to put it all back together.

    Surges then bogs with throttle

My pick would be a large air leak causing the saw to be massively lean and once fired up, jumps from idle to screaming its nuts off with the application of throttle. You have basically eliminated the fuel delivery possibilities with what you have swapped out already- so the odds are the problem...

    281XP?

They were good when I got that one- just a bit pissed I never got a 42"at the same time- they have had a bit of a price jump! That bar is a Stihl mount with an adapter plate- I used to have an 036 for some reason.

    New Bearings, Crankshaft tight.

So how are you getting on with the rest of the build? Got the 55 up and running like new again?

McCulloch MAC 3516 acting up when warm

Could possibly be nothing to do with fuel and be an electrical problem. Coil could be breaking down, working at low temperatures and loosing electrical contact when heated.

    281XP?

The 266XP all cleaned up, fixed up and ready to provide service again.

    281XP?

The 181,281 and early 288 had a horrid little starter handle- the later 288 handle was better- but the Stihl Elastostart large saw one is better yet! ;)

    281XP?

Single thick ring to replace the twin thin ring piston with the tighter combustion chamber? What is it like to cold start? Ever torn the starter handle back through your fingers?
