McCulloch 435 only runs when primed

Righto- sounds like you have covered the fuel delivery issues- except maybe a new tank filter. Next place Id be looking is air leaks- by pressure and vacuum testing the saw. Its a plastic clamshell and they are known for the cylinder coming loose from the engine pan and sucking large volumes of...

McCulloch 435 only runs when primed

Not real familiar with the model- but...... Was it starting before you removed the carb and did a carb clean/kit? Are you 100% sure the lines going to the purge valve (primer bulb) are hooked up correctly? Could be you are pushing air into the carb- not drawing fuel up into it. Not sure if...

Some 500i porting and muffler action.

Yep, 500i is a very popular pro forestry saw here- along with the 661- but I dont do that no more, but good to know you have satisfied International clients.

Some 500i porting and muffler action.

Are you building them for increased chain speed- or torque- or a bit of both? Or, do you build them to the particular customers requirements? A stock 500i off the shelf here is near $3K- I don't own one but have run a couple and they are NICE, improved upon- they would be a weapon.

How do you set the exciter ignition gap on a Shindaiwa 488 ?

Page 49-51 or there abouts is what you are looking for- if not wanting to use the tried and trusted business card method- feeler gauges can be used. http://www.golftechs.us/Manuals/shin%20chainsaw_current.pdf

    Jonsered 2255

By now you probably have guessed, I have a bit of a Jonsered thing- or a thing for Jonsereds. ;) The latest to join the fold is a broken down 2255, which is from the end of the Jonsered era and basically a Husqvarna 455 in red and black. Was sold to me on the premise it does not oil- yet had...

How do you set the exciter ignition gap on a Shindaiwa 488 ?

The fins of your flywheel sit on a flange that extends out past the magnet faces doesn't it? So you set the air gap the exact same way- just the methodology has to change. A business card cannot be inserted from the top with the saw on its side- so it must be a card trimmed to the height between...

    Stihl MS 200T - What's It Worth?

Welcome, hard for me to put a price on tools not in my local market- but here, good condition complete machines go for $700 to $1000 on a regular basis- factor in exchange rates and population variations and I guess you could halve that for USD. Best thing to do is search auction websites for...

    husqvarna cover

Off a 435/440? I hate those saws with a vengance..... But, it sounds like something is not lining up, is bent out of shape, or is incorrect fitment. If chain has been replaced- could be as simple as incorrect gauge or profile of chain and it is physically too fat for the channel to run in. The...

    partner s55 saw

Guessing no spark- so therefore it must be coil? Does the S55 not have a chip under the handle? They are what usually fail first- the coil itself is probably fine and the chip can be replaced with a NOVA one. Or, I believe (not done so personally) the self contained coil that does not require a...

    Stihl 400 demo saw

As in a TS 400? If the compression reading is true- it is probably too low- if you are using an automotive tester designed for V8's- it may not be. 100-120 psi and you will be lucky to get a 2 stroke small single cylinder to fire up. Muffler off and see what the piston looks like through the...

    Custom exhaust tinkering

Means little- without independant tests to verify the 42% claims. I often get saws that do not run when they get here, do when they leave- is that a 100% performance gain? Matters none what someone dyno says some other saw can do with a bit of welded pipe bolted on- what matters is context and...

    Custom exhaust tinkering

2 stroke motorcycle expansion chambers and race saw piped exhausts are leaps and bounds above standard chainsaw exhaust systems, modified standard- or the latest craze of welded pipe/square tube efforts.

    Bar and Chain Oil

Whatever is on special and is actual bar and chain oil. Don't live where you live so hard to advise- but most often more is less when it comes to volume. You usually make a bigger saving by buying more like 5 gallon pails and collecting them from a local store than buying 20 1 litre pottles over...

    Custom exhaust tinkering

How about having your piped saw sent for independant dyno testing against a stock saw on the same dyno- then we might be able to draw factual gain percentages?

    MS180

Walbro WT-215 off the 021-025 can be made to fit. Might have to customise the interior of the air box cover to fit- alter the throttle rod a little bit- drill access holes for the H screw and stuff like that- but it can be done fairly easily.

Welcome, pretty much an open platter here- you might have to start the ball rolling, as long as it is chainsaw related- start posting!

MS440 - Seal Leak or Rebuild? Saw is not running.

If you can buy it- for under $100 as is- it might be a chance to learn a whole lot about the internals of a chainsaw. As long as the case halves are not damaged beyond repair in any way- it is viable to rebuild it- just costly and time consuming to do so properly. No use to him in bits in a...
