460 Rancher with Stihl 36” Bar

Profound? Not really. 100% honest and truthful- yes. Not only does the 460 just plain and simple not have the guts to run a 36" chain skip or not- it would oil it worth a damn either. There is a point where bigger does not = better and your current 460 wearing a 24" is already at the maxed...

Stalls and won't start back up.

If the saw stops running and you do the spark test for dummies (which is mostly all I ever rely on) with the plug out and earthed to cylinder to see a visible spark, I would call it good. If you want to be extra sure open the electrode gap to near double what it should be, if you still get...

Worst I've seen in a while.

Just had a guy drop off (literally throw out whilst passing) a free saw. "Here have this damn wee POS, I don't want to see it back...... EVER" Husqvarna 36, I can understand the frustration- not the finest orange saw ever assembled. But, it was all there and although filthy dirty- fired on...

    No Spark

Remember where I said investigate? Not twist and pull till it breaks! Oh well, possibly ruined a perfectly good OEM HT lead and rendered the coil unusable. :D Seems at least 3 or 4 of us have at some time mentioned the grounding of the coil to the crankcase/cylinder- and with these being the...

Stalls and won't start back up.

First off- well done- good description of the process of elimination thus far and steps that have been taken. First thoughts were as dying coil, but you still have good spark once the saw stops- so I would be suggesting not flooding, but a lack of fuel entering the combustion chamber might be...

Can I run a 25" bar on my Stihl MS 271 Farm Boss?

Because it does not have the "guts" to run that big of a chain and will hardly supply enough oil to keep it lubed. 25" bars are in the serious saw league- not the consumer saw level- better suited to an MS362 minimum. Sounds like your salesperson is sensible- not just trying to push sales- a...

I did ask this very question much earlier in the conversation- but my asking, whilst clear in my head- may not have been interpreted at the other end. I mean we are talking a Brit living in Aussie....... an easily confused combination! :ROFLMAO:

    Best case halves sealant

Make your own using the cover off a telephone book, or the side off a cereal box, slap some CRC gasket adhesive on it, or that fancy stuff Loctite make and call it good.

Neither am I- but are they not single wire earthed- the green (?) wire with the ring terminal at both ends- one end to coil mount bolt, other up to a bolt on the manifold mount or similar?

Ask a few Stihl dealers if they have any trashed 391 or 311's on their rack of saws that are uneconomic repairs- you know, saws like yours that someone has straight gassed, taken to the shop and been told it is an uneconomic repair, left it there and bought a new saw. That will gift you a lot of...

Right we might be getting somewhere! Remember I said way back there were two different air cleaners that signified two differing models of coil? I am willing to bet the two Chinky dink ones you bought are incorrect for your flywheel and your original has a broken HT lead. We might have to do...

    Model 80 Jonsereds

Personally- I wouldn't. A lot depends on how good you are with a file, how good of a sawyer you are, what you are cutting and how much heat they all generate when compounded together. Personally I would run and tune it on 40:1, but Husqvarna recommend 33:1 for use in big saws- I am guessing...

    No Spark

All starting to sound a bit suspect to me and the only common variable I can find amongst all the swapped out parts and combination of parts- yet still no spark from a proven good plug is the human factor. So the only thing left is the fact once removed from the cylinder to test for spark, the...

What do I think? Well it was working before the rebuild- not working after- so in my mind has to be something simple like a broken HT line as it is about the only thing we have not covered- but on all 3 coils? Seems highly unlikely all 3 coils are iffy. Shame the other saw is a 310 and not a...

Back to the simple side- top of the spark plug- what do you see? Bare threads about 1/8" in diameter, or an aluminium looking hour glass? If you look into the boot that covers the top of the spark plug at the end of the high tension lead- what do you see? Even better, if you wriggle that boot...

Okay, before the boy killed it- it ran perfect eh? I mean it had spark and ran like normal before he filled it up with straight petrol? You came home to discover two broken saws, did not beat him around the head with either, but rebuilt them- one runs fine and the other now has no spark? What I...

Okay, because there are not only two different air filters, but they are the indicator for two different coils- ones part number ends in 4, the newer one for the round filter should end in 7. But if all components are back to original, then we can guess they should all be matched- so, get your...

First time buying a chainsaw, looking for some assistance. STIHL/HUSK/ECHO 45-60cc's

Also consider, here you got probably the best sage advice in post #2- especially with the price difference you guys enjoy over there and we did not have to go into several pages of debate of whoever thinks they have the bestest 40-60cc saw in the greater US of A! :D

    2077 and 266XP had a wee spin

I now have two of them, great mid range saws for the weekend wood gatherer. You might notice this one is wearing a Stihl bar and the front stud has been replaced with a bolt by a previous owner- this has since been rectified and the saw returned to two original Husqvarna stud system. ;)
