    No Spark

Stuart- can you tell me which type of air filter you have on your 391? Earlier ones had a kind of pentagonal cube arrangement and the later ones the cylindrical twist on ones.

    No Spark

Okay, if we start here- disconnected "both" wires at the coil? Any chance of a photo with these two wires connected? I am guessing (without IPL checking) one of those wires grounds the coil body and the other runs to the kill switch- the first must remain connected to allow the coil to work...

    Stihl MS271 Problems

Photos of the piston and the interior of the cylinder will help no end. No, a compression test holds pressure outside the cylinder and within the gauge and hose itself. It gives an indication of the combustion side of the cylinder only. Air leaks that lean a saw out happen below the top of the...

I can- you are living on the incorrect side of the Tasman! ;) :ROFLMAO:

    No Spark

Can you explain how you are "testing" for spark? I find it easier on Stihl saws to find a length of insulated multi core wire and bare both ends- wrap one end under the crush washer of the spark plug and make a loop in the other bared end to fit under something like a bucking spike bolt- this...

    Stihl MS271 Problems

If you are positive the saw was only ever run on canned premix fuel- odds are pretty good the saw may have developed an air leak that took out the piston and it will NEED repaired before any new top end is fitted- or it will do the exact same again. Ideally, some form of pressure and vacuum test...

    Stihl MS271 Problems

First question- how did you come to own a 271 with a scored piston? Was it straight gassed or was it run lean, had an air leak? Next question, can we have detailed photographs of the interior of the cylinder? It could well be that you have transfer from the melted piston on the cylinder walls-...

First time buying a chainsaw, looking for some assistance. STIHL/HUSK/ECHO 45-60cc's

Many do hold at least dual membership. ;) But you also have to consider AS has been around a whole lot longer, has MANY more active members and a MUCH larger membership base who will be only too pleased to offer up opinion on any saw related topic.

Is there any reason why you have simply copied and pasted the content of another thread into this thread when it carries absolutely no relevance to the topic? If you come up with a viable reason- I will accept it- if not, the above post will be removed.

Husqvarna 555 Carb test, what is this hole?

Guessing it is the impulse channel. Crankcase pulse works the carb diaphragm to pump fuel from tank through carb. As it is a 5 series saw I have little or nothing to do with........ See page 35 in this PDF...

    Husqvarna 141 Repair Advice?

Okay, if you don't know what that is- odds are pretty good you might have some human error involved with the carb reassembly as I have suggested all along the way. Here is a link to an exploded diagram of the carb that should be fitted to your saw...

    Oregon chains on stihl

Ah, now we are getting somewhere- your Oregon chains are Husqvarna marked- yes that will help explain the 23. As long as both old and new are the same gauge your bar calls for (assuming 0.050 ) and the old chains are sufficiently worn in the rivet holes to have become somewhat longer than new...

    Oregon chains on stihl

Your Stihl chain stamped with a 3 = 0.050 gauge (5= 0.058 and 6= 0.063) The Stihl Box marked 23= .325 pitch most probably RM The Oregon chain to be the same. 0.050 by .325 should be marked 20 or 95 on the drive links- not 23 (unless the numbers have changed over the last 15 years). Both saws as...

    Husqvarna 141 Repair Advice?

Okay, possibly you have folded and pinched a bit of the intake manifold or a gasket when reinstalling the carb- blocking something off, or causing an air leak. With the plug out the saw held upside down, pull the rope- does raw fuel splutter out the plug hole? You do not HAVE to use two stroke...

    Husqvarna 141 Repair Advice?

Okay, so you have confirmed spark- confirmed fuel getting to carb, if it is indeed getting through the carb to the combustion chamber, should cause flooding. So, the next suspect is a general lack of compression- pull the muffler and look at the piston through the exhaust port and see if it is...

Is your gas really THAT bad over there?

    Husqvarna 141 Repair Advice?

What happens if you bypass the carb and dribble some fuel mix in the plug hole then replace the spark plug? My guess is something simple to do with fuel delivery. Something to do with the disassembly of the carb and refitting of new parts- something in an incorrect order or incorrect...

    Poulan

I am not a great fan personally- but yes they were a good saw, perhaps the bottom of the pile in regards to weight versus power when the Countervibe 3700 and 4200 were also kicking about- but a fairly well put together professional use based saw.
