    Who wants a Chainsaw Giveaway?

Most likely some visitors from elsewhere that basically killed off the initial momentum when this forum got off the ground and the initial concept it was formed under is what happened. Traffic came to pretty much a standstill, membership became static and founding members went MIA- so impetus...

    Graingers?

My new 8500 kit arrived at my door today. Really well packaged, great communications from Grainger's, excellent tracking information provided and extremely fast delivery from half a World away. Perfect.

You've got nothing on the East Coast of our North Island yet. Entire forests laying in valleys.

    Lathe pics and tricks.

Probably wouldnt hurt to start with some minimum lathe requirement advice- like bed length minimums. Perhaps 12 x 36 inch for a minimum? Better than hobby lathe chuck etc. Short bed lathes do not leave much room once a cylinder is bolted up to it. Then the mounting plate, or ways of holding the...

    Porting pics and tricks

Is the paper marked and cut to a degree wheel setting- or a measurement decided from the squish band after degree wheel use?

    New guy

Okay, so probably a generation before the saws that make up my stable- or at least the majority of them. My own older saws come from the era where brakes were an option, mainly the big CC CD's, pretty much all the rest have brakes fitted.

    Graingers?

Cool, thank you- good to know. Yes, they are not the cheapest supplier of the tool, but they are the easiest for me to work with and have a very attractive shipping deal to the South Pacific.

    New guy

Welcome aboard. How old is old? What makes and models do you like to work on? I am in the process of fixing up a new to me Husqvarna 1100CD- thats my era of liking, the big CD's and XP's and anything Jonsered from the 1980's to the 21## series, but I have a few Stihls as well.

    Review Question

Reviews on websites are opinions- opinions are like a-holes, everyone has one and they are all different. They can be a helpful guideline, but they should be taken as that only, and your own opinion in the end, is the only one that matters. You put a post up in a forum like this, suggesting the...

    Graingers?

Long story short- I had a wee (read large) incident with my Mityvac tool and need to buy a new one. Now, way over here where I live, these are expensive wee tools- like $400+ type expensive. Just wondering if anyone has had any dealings with "Graingers" in the States- they seem to be the...

How can I clean out every bit of gas & oils from 2-cycle engine??

Properly mixed fuel, swill out the tank and dump. Take the spark plug out, pull the starter rope to lower the piston, pour properly mixed fuel down the plg hole, swill it about, pull the starter over slowly, turn the saw upside down and drain out. Anything left will not be enough to cause...

weird starting and running issues on poulan pro pp2050av 50cc

Could have a massive air leak and lean mix is making it run like a runaway train. These often start as a seemingly out of tune saw that tuning does not fix, continued use and the saw usually tears the top end apart. Pop the muffler and show us the face of the piston as viewed through the...

    Shindawa 488 Carb Removal

Interesting- should not have required vice grips- but okay! There will be a number on the carb body (21-245) - that number can be searched for the appropriate genuine Walbro repair kit and that is the route I would be taking for a one off reconditioning.

    Shindawa 488 Carb Removal

Not real familiar with Shindaiwa's- but it works pretty much the same with most saws. You have to remove the two hex drive screws that hold the carb to the mounting plate- remove the filter elbow and the fixing screws. Remove fuel and impulse (if it has an exterior impulse) lines. The choke...

    Einhell Problem

Purge valve is the rubber valve you push several times to purge the air from the carb for easier starting- some call it a primer valve. So this saw did not come to you new?

    Einhell Problem

You need spark, compression and correct fuel/air mix for a two stroke to run and that is about it. Unfortunately, with these wee lesser known cheaply constructed saws, lots can go wrong and there are not lots of them around for spare parts. You may or may not have eliminated fuel delivery with...

Stihl MS391 chainsaw problems starting…Advice please

So this is with the Ebay coil not meant for a 391? If so it is one I will have to add to the memory banks as a "work around"- unless your original coil was also the incorrect model part.

Stihl 460 stops after each cut

Failing some kind of throttle linkage rubbing on the kill wire and earthing out on contact- my guess would be some kind of fuel puddling and on the H circuit activation the combustion chamber get a dump of liquid fuel, not vapour and floods the saw out. Or it is staving for fuel on the H...
