    The working man

You get a spur kick out on the smooth bark ones and that bark dont seem so smooth no more! They can leave some nice burn grazes.

    The working man

Yep, typical Australians- never easy to work with. :ROFLMAO:

Your Gums look quite Poplar like in the bark- easier climb than the more usual smooth bark varieties we have here!

Saw engine size in relation to bar length

Not my picture- I "borrowed" it, but if falling that one, you would nave to pick your days to tip it towards the Ocean. :ROFLMAO:

    Stihl going nowhere

Yep stay off the throttle when the choke is on for cold starts. Starting procedures will be in the owners manual. My guess is they asked you how you were trying to start it and then pulled the plug, turned the saw upside down- cycled the rope and a heap of gas came out the plug hole- this...

    Stihl going nowhere

See there is the thing, with the cost of trained time and genuine parts these days- it does not take much to turn a problematic low initial retail item into an uneconomic repair. Thats pretty much how a lot of us get into tinkering with small equipment and learning how to diagnose and fix...

Saw engine size in relation to bar length

Here is an interesting Macrocarpa- some parts of the coast on our wee Island Nation we have issues with onshore winds.

    Stihl going nowhere

Starting fluid is not great for 2 strokes- its a dry fuel and a hot burn. We have discussed this elsewhere, spark, timing of spark, correct air and fuel mix being supplied in correct quantities to the combustion chamber and compression is all you need for a 2 stroke to work. Not having any of...

    Where do we go now?

Sometimes the repair shop is easier and less frustrating- but then it depends on the shop and if you have to deal with a genuine old saw repairer or a pimply faced cashier that studied from youtube university.

    Where do we go now?

Lots of things these can suffer from- loose floor pan of the clamshell is one- sucking air in from the bottom. Have you tried starting it again now it is cold? Could have been simple flooding trying to start the saw warm, maybe using choke settings and flooded the combustion chamber? Running...

    Where do we go now?

Well, it is good enough to see the front of the piston is not all torn up from running on a tank of raw straight gas- so thats a good starting point!

    Where do we go now?

Pull the muffler off and give us a nice clear photo of the front face of the piston as viewed through the exhaust port in the cylinder.

Saw engine size in relation to bar length

Oh we have hard woods- likely to rival most others in the common World- just legally we aint allowed to cut them down and slice them up no more! Agreed- if you are top notch on the chain sharpness you can get away with a lot of things if you don't dog in and lean real hard. ;)

Saw engine size in relation to bar length

Legally I am not meant to be driving at the moment- but have some biguns down on the farm I can snap a picture of. still standing. I was/am never a big photograph taker of trees coming down or being processed- to me it is/was just work or a job, nothing too exciting. They are just a semi...

    Oil Leaking From Chain Plate?

Yep, what Stumpy said. Take the screw out from between the studs and remove the plate. Look at the surface area of the boss the bar mounts up to, take some photos. It can be that the saw has sustained some damage due to chain derailment, or debris catches from the chain dragging something...

Saw engine size in relation to bar length

Yes, the 500i kind of breaks a lot of rules! I don't own one, but have run a couple and would recommend them to anyone buying new and wanting a main front line saw. The other difference is- all my saws are stock, if I need more- I just grab a bigger one. :D . Interesting to get other peoples...

Saw engine size in relation to bar length

Okay, what is your strategy? Your formula? Your theory? Time and time again I read in this interweb thingy about bar length suggestion that to me in my part of the World seem a bit excessive for the CC rating of the powerhead. For me this usually occurs in say the 60-65cc and 25 inch bar- or the...

    Stihl 046

Was going to let someone more local run with this- someone with E fuel experience as it seems to cause a lot of carb related issues I just do not get to experience here. Excellent post above, factory carb kit would be my first port of call and factory settings of the adjustment screws after...

    Echo cs-302

Okay, simple answer- no. Chainsaw cylinders are all lined with a plating (as a rule)- in this case chromed. As such they cannot be "bored out" without removal of said plating and therefore the need to replate to provide a serviceable cylinder bore. I do not know enough about old cinder block...

    Shindawa 488 Fuel Leak

I do not know much about nor am I familiar with the model- but IPL's are usually a pretty good go to in these situations. https://www.jackssmallengines.com/jacks-parts-lookup/manufacturer/shindaiwa/chainsaws/gasoline-chainsaws/488/488/front-handle-rear-handle
