Ported Saws... Lets see your work fellas

I usually don't go very deep with the chamfer. In my opinion, chamfering much deeper than the plating is useless unless I can replate it afterward. Some stock Echo ports have no chamfer at all surprisingly. I didn't go much wider on the transfers, so they retained the stock squareness. I mainly...

    026 build

If you plan on test running the aftermarket cylinder, start by making the exhaust port as low as you feel safe doing, then run it, then run it again @ 96. Stock they are only good for 8" wood in my opinion, and need more torque. I haven't run one ported with that high of exhaust, so I'm not 100%...

    026 build

Do you have a goal for timing numbers? I cut out some plastic in my air filter (the part that divides the upper from the lower part), it's probably some sort of spit back guard. I also replaced the flocking with nylon mesh.

    I;m forever sharping my chain(s)

Any Stihl brand chain stays sharp for a long time over some other brands. A razor sharp edge can wear out relatively quickly, but should still cut well enough after 3 logs. Make sure the chain isn't touching the dirt as you finish a cut. Cut part way through, then roll the log over to finish the...

Ported Saws... Lets see your work fellas

I watched the other video. I think it just needs the upper transfers worked over properly. The upper transfers can make or break the performance. And maybe open up the muffler more (I can't see what's been done to it). But I've never ported a 046, so hopefully someone can tell you exactly what's...

Ported Saws... Lets see your work fellas

Looks like it runs good. Seeing how it performs with a longer bar in big wood would help us see what's wrong. What are the port timing numbers on it so far? Opening the lower transfers "big time" may be your problem if it was too much and in the wrong direction. I did a day of logging with a...

I know I like my 550 mkII. Only a muffler mod and 24" bar and it is both super light with good reach and plenty of power.

Ported Saws... Lets see your work fellas

026 I did & a XS 7900. I was satisfied with how the 026 turned out, but want a little more out of it, so I might open up the muffler more as it only has an extra side exit with stock front hole. The version of cylinder wasn't the best to start with, and I didn't feel like going extreme with...

Ported Saws... Lets see your work fellas

572 seemed quieter and didn't appear to get leaned on as hard. Maybe that's why it was a little slower? Looks like a similar muffler mod on the 572, so I don't know why it is quieter. Quick chain though on both.

Torquey ported 490 in Ash. Stock cut that log in about 25 seconds.

    Cylinder Base Sealants

Have you ever experienced a failure in those areas or heard of a failure from cutting the extra off to keep the base gasket? I was thinking of cutting .043" off the base on mine and using the gasket. I see where those areas would be thin, but I don't think it would be thin enough to cause...

    Let's Build A 660!

What exactly is different that makes the 066 better even when modded than the 660? Transfer tube dimensions? Exhaust height? Piston dimensions? Combustion chamber shape? I've never compared them side by side. If I'm not mistaken, stock 066 had a lower exhaust and dual port muffler which would be...
