Stihl 041 farm boss oiling way too much.

Temperature? There are 3 grades of bar oil: summer, winter, and all-season. Which one are you using and how hot (or cold) is it? Then there are differences between brands... I'd check the kind of oil used before looking for something complicated. I've seen some brands that don't seem to have any...

    Homelite won’t start

Don't take this personally... :p but you did put fresh fuel mix in it, right?

    Homelite won’t start

Compression is OK? Just because you've replaced parts doesn't mean the parts are good. Do you have spark? The most common cause of no-start on the old Homelites is a bad air-purge bulb. Second is spark plug. (can be bad even if it looks good) Third is ignition coil.

Idles fine, runs fine, dies when dropping back to idle.

Dunno, but I've personally found it useful to fix the stupid-simple stuff before looking deeper. My first to-do when I have any 2-stroke issue is to mix a fresh batch of gas. Even when the not-so-old mix is running everything else, the two-stroke gods appreciate the sacrifice and will often...

    Service table or mount suggestions

There's nothing mysterious or specialized about it. A light duty vise works fine... you're not going to really crank on it, so it should last forever. I like a dual mount so I can move it around. https://smile.amazon.com/Dual-Purpose-Combined-Universal-Adjustment-Woodworking/dp/B095SN9C5Y If...

    Sach dolmar question

A number of chainsaw parts online stores carry Sachs-Dolmar parts... or at least they list them. Personally, I've dealt with Leon's Chainsaw Parts and Repair for parts for my vintage Homelite.

    Chain Sharpener Suggestions

I know this is near zombie status, but still an issue worth addressing. I have that Harbor Freight sharpener that @chainsawmaster1000 mentions above. It does a decent job for the money, but for me it served to make me decide I liked a bench grinder enough to invest in an Oregon bench grinder. It...

    Show Off Your Milling Setups!

Actually, I'd like to pick your brains... The bandsaw mill I'd like is north of $2K. That's not going to happen. A chainsaw mill is at least doable, so what should I look for?

Brand of mini chainsaw on amazon

No personal experience, but life has taught me that (within reason) it's best to stick to a name brand. At least there's a chance of being able to get parts when (not if) needed. That said, I'm going to make a recommendation anyhow. The reason is going to sound crazy given what I've already...

    Peaveys

Here I was thinking I needed a new Peavey. I found out the Peavey company is still in business and making logging tools. Established in 1857. I just thought that was cool enough to share.

    Not So Pro

Once upon a time the Forest Service paid me... back in the mid '60s... musta' been the 1960s as the Division of Forestry wasn't created until 1881. But I've been paid to do other stuff ever since. So no-so-pro is a pretty apt description.

    Show Off Your Milling Setups!

I've been tempted to get a bandsaw mill, but my barn is full of wood I had milled for me. Mostly walnut, some oak and basswood. Now I have to figure out how to sell it.

    Husqvarna vs Stihl

l used to buy Stihl... but I worked for a dealer. Since going back to self-employment (or self-unemployment as the case may be) I've been buying Echo. I don't think you can go far wrong with any of Stihl, Husqvarna, or Echo. But I don't know a lot about Husky. Things I don't like about Stihl...

    It's snowing!

Still (or is it Stihl?) have a lot of cutting to do. The first time I ran a saw was in 1966... worked a fire crew for the USFS. Learned to love Red Wing boots, Pulaskis and Homelite saws. Still wearing Red Wings; still using a Pulaski, but the Homelite 410 (which I bought, not liberated) sits...
