Husquava 435 starts but stops when throttle pressed.

My husband is having a problem wth his Husquava 435 which is getting worse. He can start it OK but it runs at high revs and if he touches the throttle it cuts out. He has tried changing the fuel and replaced the spark plug but nothing seems to help. Can anyone offer any suggestion what he should try and what the problem is? I should add that it used to be a great running saw but has steadily been getting worse.

Not a favorite saw of mine- just about hate them- but willing to bet the farm the saw has been running on a lean condition of either poor fuel ratio, too lean on the carb settings, or an air leak.
Remove the muffler and take a photo of the piston as viewed through the exhaust port- my bet, it is scored up to heck.
Put say 4-5mls of oil down the plug hole and swill it about on top of the piston, refit the plug and start the saw- willing to bet it starts easier and smokes like a banshee.

If any of that rings true- the saw has become an uneconomic repair to most any shop and you will be advised to buy a new saw. The 435 was never really designed with terminal engine repair as an option, the repairs cost more than a new similar saw off the shelf.
