split piston rings?

has anyone seen/used a set of split piston rings. that's right, each ring is machined with a groove in the middle. so making the ring as two small rings. what's up?

no, installed. the ring has the center machined out. each ring simulates 2 skinny rings. good/bad? rings become thin, wear fast, 2 rings in one. i don't know. never seen this. like putting two washers together with a washer spacer.

Never seen it in a saw personally.
What midel and make are you talking?
There was an era of thin ring use where each individual ring was only 0.7mm thick, not 1.2 or 1.5mm.
