My shindaiwa 488 ran and cut great one day . The next day started great as usual but idled as the brake was on but was not . It will not rev and again acts as brake is on . Chain spins free with my hand but never turns when trying to rev . I know how this saw runs and sounds and it is like brake is on . It will sit and idle til it runs out of fuel and will not ever die while trying to rev it but will not rev . I have changed plug and checked fuel filter . Going to look closer at clutch this morn . Don't know where else to look other than carb but do not want to go there yet . Want to rule everything else out first . Help wanted .

Easiest way to rule out the brake as the culprit is to remove the clutch cover that contains all the brake parts and the bar and chain- does the clutch drum move freely?
Start the saw, does it rev up, clutch engage the clutch drum and then if off the revs does it return to idle?
If it does the same with the clutch cover off- the brake may be fine and there is an issue within the power take off side of the saw.

I had already done that with no change . Yesterday , I put the spark checker on it to see how strong the fire was and very good . Took it off and restarted and crazy but it was all back to running great . Cut with it all afternoon . Thanks for the input .
