I'm Putting a 480cd back together and seem to have a bit of resistance turning it over by hand with the flywheel on. It's turning freely with it off (no it's not the av buffer screw catching the fins)
I was wondering if the SEM ignitions are typically hard to turn past the magnets as that's what it feels like. And coil gaps un-adjustable from what I can tell.

Are you sure all the components are compatible?
With the spark plug out- does it feel the same?

I just got a "new" tank for a 480- so can pull one apart to see.

No cylinder on it at this stage. It is/was a complete saw when I got it. Dry cracked crankseals, scored piston and wee bit of transfer on cylinder.
It feels alot like the resistance you'd get rotating the magnets past the coil but alot more extreme. Fine with flywheel off.
I may have to check that the crank isn't bent.
It turns freely for most of the cycle, but does involve turning the clutch with one hand and flywheel with the othe to get it past that point.
Can't guarantee that the parts that were on it are compatible. But flywheel says SEM and so does ignition/coil.
Bearings are in good nick and was rotating nicely prior to flywheel being put on.
Is there supposed to be anything between ignition and flywheel? Bushing/spacer etc. There wasn't anything else when I took it apart

OK... So the ignition hadn't seated properly into the recess so the flywheel was binding against it. All smooth now.
I Made a bit of a mountain out of a mole hill there!

While I'm on the subject. There's no way to set coil gap is there? Seems like a fixed unit
