My son has an MS170 saw that had a bad bar oil leak. In replacing the oil tank tube, I discovered that trying to seat the new hose in the oil tank hole, the groove on the rubber tube is not sized for the thickness of the oil tank wall. There is no wonder there are so many folks out there with leaky saws. So, I installed the hose s best as I could get it installing with RTV. Then, I filled the area, totally encapsulating the hose. I'm going to give it a couple of days to cure completely and give it a try. I know this is a problem inherent with this saw so if my message is a repeat of someone else's findings, I apologize.

My guess is- you for an oil line with a grommet suited to magnesium tank models and not the 170's plastic tank.
A small O ring on the inside of the grommet may have taken up any slack and made it seal- or even a washer maybe.

Hi Bob, the new tube was identical to the old one. If all the leaky 170's have this same part, there's no wonder there's a
chronic problem. the thickness of the tank wall gets a lot thicker on the upper end of the tube hole. It looks like they mis-located the hole in the factory. Anyway, I installed the hose with RTV and then filled the tube trough to encapsulate the tube, not leaking yet... Thanks for the post.
