But is it a fair fight to put a 41cc up against a 45cc? May not sound much but when you work it out in percentages, in smaller saws it can be quite a jump.

Probably, in your market- the Echo's as well.
They are usually much cheaper, well made and dependable in the sub 50cc range;
The first two you mention come from very reputable brands- but are fairly consumer grade saws.
Of course if not HAVING to buy a new saw..... should be plenty of Husqvarna 350's kicking about and I would grab one of those long before the 251 or 440...... but that is based on the fact I can access and repair anything needed on a secondhand 350 fairly easily.

There are several factors you may want to consider, I hear Husqvarna has a substantially longer warranty period? Stihl dealers are more abundant in my area,so it may pay to go with the one with reputable dealer abundance for parts and service?
l used to buy Stihl... but I worked for a dealer. Since going back to self-employment (or self-unemployment as the case may be) I've been buying Echo. I don't think you can go far wrong with any of Stihl, Husqvarna, or Echo. But I don't know a lot about Husky.
Things I don't like about Stihl: The farshugena 1/4 turn gas and oil caps. Poor sealing on the air filter assembly. The "easy" adjust chain tensioner and/or ez-start on those models that have them.
Haven't found anything I don't like on Echo yet. They start easier than the Stihl (for me) once you learn the procedure. 5 year warranty for consumer use. Price, at least around here, is better.

Both chainsaws are good and both are for small to medium sized jobs. I have used both of them and I find Stihl 251 more reliable than husqvarna because it consumes 20% less fuel as compared to husqvarna 440 and provide 50% less emissions. Although both are good, but I would go with Stihl. Secondly, Stihl has easy-start and anti-vibration system as well.
