Any common ignition issues on the 480CD? I’m not getting any spark on mine.
 
Greeting from the uk 🇬🇧 I’m looking for recommendations for timing numbers for a 372xp non-xtorq 50mm. I’m running full house chisel chain on a 24” bar (might go 28”) with a 7 pin sprocket. Currently I’m at 100 exhaust opening and 154 intake duration with no base gasket. Squish is 30-35 thou I think. Any advice greatly appreciated, thanks.

I like 102/122/78-80. Looks like it would be at pretty good numbers if it was decked down to .020" squish.

Thanks Kenzie. I'm going to try and do better on sharing some of my projects, they're a bit much for FB to handle most of the time lol. I'm sure you know what I mean. Not to mention those long projects need their own thread to keep things organized.

Yep, that's why this made sense to me, it's much better for keeping track of things like that for people to follow without it getting broken up and becoming hard to find.
 
Hi from Oregon. Rebuilding an ‘01 385xp into a 390…watched Ironhorse’s build series as well as AFC’s. Looking for an OEM cylinder/piston kit, but hard to find…not sure about the AM stuff…anyone know if there’s a good 55mm pop-up piston out there for a 390? Hey, just watched Bayou’s video about this forum, so decided to throw my hat into the ring…Exciting times!!!😁

If your 385 cylinder is at all salvageable, I would keep it and put a new piston in it if it's roached. They run as strong, if not stronger, than a 390 due to the port timing being excellent on them. If you do end up going the aftermarket route and need machine work done on the piston and cylinder to get what you want, I will be offering that as a service for the do it yourself guys.

I checked the cylinder/piston through the exhaust port today…a bit of surface scoring along the intake side of the cylinder (odd), but nothing else noted…I’ll look at it closer when I pull it to do a base gasket delete. I’m sure it could use new rings and a piston while I’m at it since she’s 20 yrs old…squish right now is ~ .045 with the gasket. Carb’s kaput, so changing that out. Should I fiddle with the exhaust side while I’ve got it apart? Heard the intake side improves a bit with a gasket delete, but then again, I run saws, new to modding😁
I believe the 385xp OEM cylinder/piston kit I’d need is 537169771…correct?

You should end up around .025" without the gasket. Yes it will increase the intake duration when it's dropped and lower the exhaust and transfers as well. Could polish the exhaust to keep carbon from building up on it and match the gasket/muffler to the port. And of course have a good time doing it!

Absolutely!! Now to track down an OEM 54mm cylinder/piston kit😆

Agree with your thoughts on the 385
 
Is there a pop-up piston available for the 385 that you guys are aware of by chance? Additionally, the piston in my saw is a single ring, but all the OEM 54mm pistons I’m finding are 2 ring…think the extra drag will effect things much?

Not that I've ever seen, would have to machine one.
