If anyone knows how the springs for the 2 pawls for the pull start mechanism connect to and tension the pawls, does the flywheel need to come off?, tricky enough to find info on these vintage machines
Any ideas appreciated.

When you have not done them before- they can seem tricky or at least not aligned the way you think perhaps they should be.
The flywheel should stay in place and not need to come off- the pawls can be hex head, socket hex head and press in type- the threaded one may require heat as they have often had threadlocker applied- the press fit ones are best with the flywheel removed and punched out from the back.
Easiest to have a complete flywheel on hand to reference- but if you are fitting new- be aware there are small washers in the system as well and make sure the spring loops are not pinched between flywheel boss and pawl pin step when fitting.

My pawls are pressed in so will need to punch out from the back when the new springs arrive, will they be difficult to press back in upon reassembly

As long as they are still a press fit- they should hold.
I have removed press fit and replaced them with screw in type after threading the holes.

Being a home workshop and probably no bench mount arbour press- just tap them in with a hammer.

Over here there are many wrecked 1## and 2## Husqvarnas- so picking up another flywheel or a spare set of pawls/springs/pins is not an issue.
