You can see the middle extends past the outer arms quite a bit.

Yes- that measurement below your straight edge should be between .060 and .070.
Or if you like metric- around 1.65mm.

Hey Bob thanks for all the help and support!
I cleaned the needle and the seat again and reassembled the saw. And what do you know it starts up and idles! I can only assume I managed to get some sort of debris in there at some point.
