The kill switch on my saw no longer works, but the problem is the disconnection of one of the wires. Replacement part is no.544898701, and should be an easy repair. The blue wire clips to the tab an inch below the pencil point, and the parts diagrams show the black wire having a ring terminal to be screwed to 'a tab?' The bare metal at the pencil tip appears to the site of where something ( a tab?) was attached at the factory, and is now gone forever. Can I drill and tap a hole at this site, and screw the ring terminal here?

No.

The ring terminal goes to the mounting bolt of the coil itself.
Do you have an air compressor? Clean the area the coil sits in- the build up of grime in, around and under the coil traps heat and heat kills electronics over time. Then remove the rear mounting bolt you can see in the photograph- sit the ring terminal on the coil mounting and pass the bolt back through both- tighten down.

Below is one of my 2159's, same saw, but in Jonsered colours.

Thank you sir !!! Upon close inspection it appears that the shiny spot is where the end of the broken wire vibrated and scraped off the paint
