Good morning
I'm sitting here drinking my coffee looking at a 16" or so shagbark hickory standing in my front yard.
It has about 25 to 30 feet of nice straight trunk.
How do you remove the shagbark for prepping it to be milled.
Any tip for a newbie?
I will add.
The hickory on my property have been dying off the last 4 years.
Some big old ones, some middle aged.
The forester says it happens sometimes, I had called to ask if there was a blight, bug, or a wilt like oak wilt, he said no ?
Anyhow, I noticed that there are about 20 to 30 percent of the branches are "dead" bare of leaves. This is how the other now dead ones had looked before the next spring, where they had no leaves whatsoever.
Kinda planning for the inevitable, I am working on a 30x30 man cave rec rm for my hunting fishing stuff and was thinking some native wood off my property for the trim, possible bar/reloading bench/lure making desk wood be nice.

Thanks for the replys
