Recently arrived at my doorstep in a box.
1988 was the first year for the 288 XP version, no decomp on the cylinder and probably started out life as a "flat top" .
This is the only true Eliminator blue top cover I have seen over here- but it still has the remains of the red decal and the casting name on the inside- so it is the real thing. It also has no hole, nor provision for one on the inside for a decompression valve.
Arrived in pretty rough condition, front of the oil tank was pushed in, a piece of case missing at the air intake to the airbox region so the starter had nothing to bolt to- so a case swap was performed with a 1999 that was in much better condition and on hand. ID tag was swapped over from the busted cases to the donor set.
Came with no clutch cover- should be a metal hoop flag, not plastic- but it is what I had in stock. It also had the later large decal starter fitted- should be the small square decal style. Just so happened I had the reverse on another 288 here- so they have since been swapped with each other.
Bit of a toad to cold start if you do not treat it right- with no decomp and all- but it runs beautifully.
