    372xp Popup build tips

Seems there's a lot of options to go about it between the aftermarket popup pistons or machining your own from a 268xp piston. What's your favorite and why? I was leaning towards the 268. What says you?

    Chain selection thread

3/8 mostly but damnit all if I dont have all 3 gauges. Most are 50 but I use 63 for the mill and the 58 are only around because I havent worn out the bars. The chitty part is I seem to acquire 58 gauge bars for free.

    372xt Questions

If it's as nice on the outside as the inside, you should be able to get 600-800 with a bar and chain. You use to be able to get them for mid/upper 800 out the door new but believe its upper 900 now.

    Stihl 028 bar/chain lubrication:

Yep, they exist. The standard summer time bar oil is a 30W oil. The winter grade oil is a 20W. The tractor supply brand oil is very thin to begin with but I buy their winter grade and mix it with my preferred brand summer grade.

    Show Off Your Milling Setups!

I have a 60" mill that I'm about to dust off and get milling with now that the heat is beginning to break. It's all welded Aluminum 1x2 box tube with three 2x2" angle cross members. I have to mount the supports that clamp the bar and add a winch. I have a 72" double ended bar and will run 404...

    3120 Scuff

Yeah, I'll know more when I take it apart but that looks (to me) like the end of the ring opening up and coming out of the ring land when over the port, not the locating pin backing out. I might stick with an OEM piston with dual rings for this saw since its going to see heavy use milling. If...

    3120 Scuff

Only one I found was an oversized piston for 62mm. I'll have to reach out to Dave. Is he on the forum yet? I doubt there is any based on the 150# compression. I dont think the pin worked out any but the ring end has been taking a little beating based on the wear.

    3120 Scuff

It got great compression but if you zoom in, that upper ring has heavy wear chamfered on the upper and lower edge near the pin.

    3120 Scuff

As far as I know, it's all factory. If its backwards the factory screwed it up. I've never been into a 3120 so it never crossed my mind that it's backwards.
