Okay, you know what you are meaning by what you typed- but I sure as heck cant fathom it.
You have a 1981 model 50 that had NO (not on) spark so you replaced coil and spark plug- still no spark?
Your 460 does currently run but with the plug out there is no apparent spark?
My guess is the 50 has a stray earth problem and the kill circuit is in a permanent "off" position regardless of the switch position- or the switch itself is faulty and not returning to run.
The 460 is not getting a good enough earth to the cylinder during your tests and or the flywheel is not being rotated fast enough to produce good visible spark.
