Ported Saws... Lets see your work fellas

352 in hard wood this time, and it feels pretty good for 34cc. I'm sure it could be better with more experimentation.

    Dereal Chainsaw

That metal ring is the braking mechanism that stops the chain when the brake handle gets pushed forward. There should be a little lever on it where the brake handle attaches, you may need pliers to pull the lever back if you can't push the clutch cover onto the saw far enough for the handle to...

    Husqvarna e345 wits end

Could be the wrong bar. Length, pitch, and gauge is one thing, but the tail mount pattern, oil hole and all needs to match what a particular saw model requires. I got some bars that fit my Makita chainsaw well, but upon close inspection before even running it I noticed the oil hole on the bar...

Ported Saws... Lets see your work fellas

The squish gets tight (.013) where the arrow points to that area sticking out a little out of round. Although I think my popup is the slightest bit off center side to side, so I'll shave off a little on the piston on that side.

    STIHL 044 muscle-saw

Less long term stress on the bearings. It can also prevent a chain from over tightening after running when the bar and chain cool down.

Yes it is off center for an off center combustion chamber.

Ported Saws... Lets see your work fellas

There was a bunch of fine sawdust and filter fuzz in the carb and crank case after only 1/2 tank run time since new, so that filter mod should really help it out. I got the piston machined today

Ported Saws... Lets see your work fellas

Makita 9010 air filter mod. I removed the fuzzied coarse metal screen and it now flows much better, is easier to clean, and filters out finer dust.

My saw don't run good- can you have a look.

Mac 10-10 are some of the worst if I'm not mistaken.

    Cuttin' Crooked

The bar dressing files don't work well in my opinion because the rails easily get work hardened and heat tempered. I knew someone who claimed his chain was sharp, but it wouldn't cut. The side of all the teeth on one side of the chain was dull. The top of the teeth were sharp, but the sides had...

what woods you should not burn in fireplace or wood stove

I have such a strong draft, that I don't have to worry much about buildup in the chimney, especially if I get a hot fire going occasionally, which I do. The steel pipe is chimney fire resistant anyway. I like to have slow long fires when I need to, so that means potential smoldering and dirty...

what woods you should not burn in fireplace or wood stove

What model of wood burner do you have? Gov. regulations around here have required new wood stove designs that have a well insulated fire box to trap heat in for a hotter fire, and have air inlets up top that help better burn the wood gas. Most models are single burn rate design with no...

Ported Saws... Lets see your work fellas

I found those pictures recently when trying to remember what timing numbers I used on that 590 I posted a video of earlier: https://chainsawforum.com/threads/ported-saws-lets-see-your-work-fellas.43/post-1503 I don't think I recorded the numbers anywhere. It runs strong in the 8000-10,000rpm...

what woods you should not burn in fireplace or wood stove

Best to burn pine and similar dirty woods very hot with lots of extra air, or burn it very hot, but in very small amounts at a time. At least keeping the chimney hot enough with plenty of extra air too will keep the creosote from condensing, and help any buildup to oxidize.

Is Stihl the Best Chainsaw Brand?

Their parts pricing seems somewhat random. One part may seem over priced, another seems under priced. Sometimes I get a quote from the dealer for over $100 for a part like an ignition for example, I figure it should be $70 from past experience. Go back and actually buy it, and it rings up as $50.

    023 with a decompression valve!?

I wonder how the red thing got in there? I can't think of any sensible reason other than intentionally placed by a dummy, or maybe something was being sprayed into the carb, and the straw shot off, got chopped by the piston in the intake port, and flew up a transfer port where it got smashed up top.

Is Stihl the Best Chainsaw Brand?

I can't say that Echo has any crappy disposable saws like Husqvarna and Stihl, other than the Echo 310, which is miserably underpowered. I think whichever brand checks the most boxes for people would be best, but if one is much more affordable, then people may be willing to settle for fewer...

25" bar on Stihl ms271 Farm Boss

If you really had to, I'm sure it would get the job done, but it may get the saw pretty hot, and cut slow. Full skip .325 chain isn't very common, and 25" .325 bars might not be common either, so I would change the sprocket to 3/8 pitch.
