    Chain not cutting well

Hi All, First off, I'm a novice to chainsaws, but have been learning how to safely use and operate in my timber these last 6 months. My small light duty saw (Greenworks 48V 16") has served me well in cutting up lots of fallen trees, but there came a point where the chan was obviously dull and...

Chain Won't Spin Freely Periodically (Shindiawa 488)

I pulled the bar and chain off again last night and lubricated the front sprocket with some WD-40. It spins much more freely now. I noticed that there is one small point in the sprocket rotation where it takes slightly more effort to spin, but thought I'd give it a try. I put the chain back on...

Chain Won't Spin Freely Periodically (Shindiawa 488)

I'll try to get some pictures posted tonight or tomorrow. I will say that I did get the tip of the saw pinched pretty good the day before the chain rotation issue started. I was bucking a fallen 2' diameter tree. Perhaps that has something to do with the nose sprocket not turning without...

Chain Won't Spin Freely Periodically (Shindiawa 488)

Hi guys, So the previous owner of my acreage left behind some chainsaws, one of them a Shindaiwa 488. I rebuilt the carb , and it has run beautifully for a saw that is over 30 years old. I was down cutting some wood and after about 45 minutes, I noticed that the chain would no longer spin...

    Shindawa 488 Fuel Leak

We'll, I got lucky and found another post on the web where another user experienced a similar issue: (https://opeforum.com/threads/shindaiwa-488-fuel-leak-questions.1126/) I guess I'm still not sure what purpose the hole serves, as it's not the actual tank vent, but from the sounds of it...

    Shindawa 488 Fuel Leak

Thanks Bob, upon closer examination, I do see a vent hose coming out the top of the tank (purple arrow). Blue arrow is where the fuel is leaking from. The hole has no threads and is probably only about 1/8" thick.

    Shindawa 488 Fuel Leak

Hi Guys, The previous owner of my property left behind a Shindawa 488 saw and I couldn't bring myself to trash it. I put a carb kit in it a few days ago, and went to flush some debris from the fuel tank tonight, and noticed that when not held straight up and down, fuel leaks out of a hole that...

    Shindawa 488 Carb Removal

Would it be adviseable for me to purchase a carb kit for this carb, or would a good cleaning/soak suffice? If carb kit, what does this community recommend? I'm a little leery about a kit off of Amazon, but maybe they aren't bad?

    Shindawa 488 Carb Removal

Thank you...I was able to get it removed...it took quite a bit of twisting of the carb and some vice grip work, but everything came off and doesn't appear to have gotten bent.

    Shindawa 488 Carb Removal

Hi All, I'm new here. The prior owner of my property left behind a bunch of old chainsaws. One of them is a Shindawa 488, which I plan to get running. I'm starting by removing the carb to give it a soak, but before I go and break something, I wanted to check with this community to help advise...
