Getting close on the muffleršŸ˜‰. Old one scavenged from, sheetmetal work all but doneā€¦

* note to self for future mods*
Itā€™s a bit difficult to get metal to bend in rounded convex shapes with a 28oz framing hammer & a 2x4 as an anvil!!šŸ˜†šŸ˜‚

Methinks I found the reason why the saw wonā€™t idle, and no amount of fiddling or adjustment will get it to idleā€¦took the welch plug out of the 385ā€™s Tilly carb andā€¦Iā€™m pretty sure thereā€™s NOT supposed to be that many holes!!!ā€¦šŸ˜³šŸ™„. At least I got rid of the limiter on the H jet while I was screwing around with the thing!šŸ˜†šŸ˜‚.

Multiple holes under the welch plug is normal, at least on any carb I've ever popped the welch plug out of has had multiple holes.

Thereā€™s the 3 normal holes that are supposed to be there, but 2 additional through and through holes likely caused by a sharp punch when someone removed the plug for a previous ā€œrepairā€šŸ˜†šŸ˜‚

Trying to figure out what lines are supposed to go to these 2 connections on the filter holder as nothing was connected to themā€¦oneā€™s presumably the tank vent? And the other? Theyā€™ve got me bamboozledšŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļø

Oh I see now, didn't look that closely. You can JB weld those holes up and try it again. The one with the sintered metal on the back side of the filter holder is for the vent. Don't recall the other one having anything hooked to it. Does it go through?

Will give it a go! The vent had nothing attached to it, and neither did the otherā€¦looks like it feeds back into or from the air filter itselfā€¦

You don't actually need either one of the nipples on the air horn, the actual vent is in the tank. That's all EPA stuff.

Verify your gauge on a running saw and make sure decomp is off. I see lots of folks with gauges not reading correctly

I held it in the air by the starter handle, and the saw bop, bop, bopped right to the floorā€¦

Throw some caber rings in it

I got a gauge thatā€™s pretty far off. Says my 044 has 75 psi but pick it up by the pull cord and it takes a full min to go all they way down. Last time I used that comp gauge

Well, I received the ā€œrebuiltā€ carb I bought from a guy for $50 in one of the FB saw groupsā€¦.put it on, hooked everything up, andā€¦.nada!! Nada drop of fuel into the carb, so I pulled it out, tore it apart, andā€¦the diaphragm was as crispy as fall leaves, the metering needle was worn out, the fuel inlet was plugged..etc. So, I cleaned it up and rebuilt the damn thing. It now has good fuel & runs, but still wonā€™t idleā€¦Iā€™ve got the H/L screws out 1 1/4 turns each, but even with the idle screw set way in, itā€™ll only idle for a few seconds then dieā€¦.back to the drawing board I guessšŸ™„šŸ˜†šŸ˜‚

Dang man, you got had. The new one I bought a few months ago was only about 80. I'd be playing with the L screw, most likely in the direction to lean it out some.
