I need to pick your brains.

I just bought this for $10 along with another Old MTD Sears saw. The sears ran for a sec and is pretty tight on pull after it ran for a sec(so hints cyl is good?!?!).
When I pour some fuel down the carb, I get a good spray\breeze blowback when I pull to start it.
Is it a "Lost in Space robot "Warning Mr Robinson!!!" " and don't bother as I have never had a 2 cycle motor blow back like this? Also, being it is similar size to my other post, even that one doesn't blow back like this one. If it is shot, at least it will save me the cost of a rebuild kit...

I tried the "pick it up by cable" and it didn't drop like a rock so is why I got it. Worst case I got a $10 paper weight.

TIA.

Pretty common for the fuel lines to rot out on these they have a right angle nipple in the line at the back of the top handle.
Blow back, will and can happen- usually you dont see anything because the filter and cover are on, but being hard on the pull after firing- the crankcase might be full of fluids from sitting or previous owner flooding it and then selling it.

OK so I guess go for it and see... I'll check if it even sparks before buying a kit.
Thx.

*UPDATE*

The "compression" really turns out to be friction in the cylinder. It did fire twice but never did after and actually lost compression after running. I opened the cyl and it is scored. I guess I would be out another $30 if I really want to keep it. :-(

Well, finally got around to it. It runs but with a quark - It won't idle in that it run high that the chain moves and I turn the low screw out 3revs to get it to start slowing down.

I already boiled the carb but I guess the idle is still clogged up with stuff.

Okay, if you cannot slow the idle down to the point of where the chain stops rotating- by JUST using the idle screw not the L low circuit screw- something else is wrong, not the tuning.
First place I would suspect is clutch and or clutch spring. If it is too weak to hold the clutch shoes away from the drum until 3000ish RPM- then the clutch shoes will engage the drum at low speeds.
If the clutch is not the answer- odds are pretty good you have an air leak and the saw is sucking excess air into the system that you are trying to tune out by increasing the fuel on the low circuit being 3 turns out.

Being the high mix screw is normal(1 turn), I assume leak is not a problem. I am guessing the idle passage from the mix screw to the throttle plate is dirty. I removed the mix screw and blew out the passage with carb cleaner and some cleaner did go to the venturi.
I have it open about 3 turns and have got it to idle with the chain stopping.
