***PLEASE READ*** What makes/models would you love to rebuild but can’t because nobody makes a cylinder & piston kit or they are obsolete.

Hello

A little background from me, I have been in the outdoor power equipment industry for the majority of my life after opening my shop at age 14. I am/was a dealer for Dolmar, Efco, Jonsered & Poulan Pro (in the late 90’s & early 2000’s they had few quality models) also a year or so ago Mikita announced that they would be stopping production of gas powered saws which means that they are effectively putting the Ax to Dolmar a 97 year old chainsaw mfg to focus on battery/electric products so my business needs to diversify.

I have been doing e-commerce sales via eBay for years now but I want to expand that to my own website and different products. One big hobby of mine is old/oldish saws and I’m sure there are a lot of people here that have that same addiction. My question for everyone reading this is what would be your top 3 to 5 or more if you want chainsaws to rebuild that you can’t find, nobody makes, is way too expensive or the piston & cylinder kits are obsolete 30 years ago. I am currently working with two very good & reputable manufacturers that have the capability to manufacture cylinders & pistons to specifications I provide (one is located in Japan and the other is in Italy, I also am looking into another located in Germany so the quality will be top notch, no Taiwan or Hong Kong for me) it’s early in the process but I would like to put together a list of possible models based on popularity or what people are searching for or ultimately what people would purchase. Based on all the talks I’ve already had when it comes to visual appearance & attention to detail both manufacturers say they can match OEM 99.9%. Now for the guys that will want a sweet running saw, they have the capability to manufacture billet pistons as well as make any porting modifications I would like so the possibilities are really kind of endless there. Ultimately my goal for this project wasn’t based on the performance or modification side of things, I would just like to get a list of popular models that people would like to see available then once the final decisions are made I can start looking for those cylinders and pistons to model & blueprint.

I would like to say thank you to everyone that has stuck with me this long, I look forward to seeing everyone’s ideas. This is just the beginning of this project/process and it should be fun and challenging at the same.
I’m new here but if you would like to chat about this, have questions or input of any kind I believe you can send me a direct message on here. I used to be on arborist site a lot but I somehow was hacked and haven’t been able to get back in, once this project gains more traction and I get further into it I want to get back in there along with other sites as well.

Like I said I look forward to hearing everyone’s ideas, if you have any questions let me know. Have a great day!

I can think of about 50 off hand- but there are probably reasons they are not covered by aftermarket already- demand is light and production orders would be low volume and so therefore uneconomic.
There will be a small group of old time enthusiasts hanging out for say a Jonsered 930 Super top end- how many? 20 maybe? Perhaps 50?
The guys wanting them are not teenagers- they are getting older and thinking more about retiring than throwing dollars at old saws not likely to see a lot of use.
If they are young, if they are using saws to make money and a living- they are not using old relics.
To me, a Pioneer IEL RA is old, to my kids, a Husqvarna 162SE is old, to my grandkids a 372XP will be old........
