Hi. I’ve had my saw for a few years but only use it 2 or 3 times a year. It was fine when I put it away last time but when I got it out today the compression was so high I couldn’t pull the cord.

I had a look at the choke and, though the lever is still operating as it should, the choke isn’t opening. I eventually got it started by putting a Velcro tape around the trigger and whipping it off as soon as it started, so I know it’s working fine once it gets going.

What do I need to do?

Thanks.

Compression so hi you could not pull the rope?
Syphoning fuel hydro locking the cylinder?
Or rings sticking to bore with sitting and lack of lubrication maybe- hard one to "guess".

First thing I would do, is check the choke rod is still attached to the master control switch and the lever on the arm of the choke rod.
By the choke not opening- I an guessing you mean not closing and is remaining open?

Thanks for getting back to me. Maybe I’ve got my terminology the wrong way round but by not opening I mean the choke disc is remaining across the opening. It spins open if I hold the trigger and I can pull the cord easily at that point and see that the piston is moving.

I’ll have a look and see if I can work out what’s what.
