Today I went to go and sharpen my climbing saw and the big new 3120 xp I got from my grandpa. I don't think he has seriously used the saw in about 3-5 years.
It would fire right up after choke no problem many times with me messing with it. Fresh REC 89 oil mix fuel it ran clean. I had even been revving it before but not excessively. Well after I spent 30 minutes sharpening that chain I wanted to see the fruits of my labor and give her a load. It went through the log half way then just straight up quit. No throttle response whatsoever when pressing the trigger.
I thought I crapped out the saw, didn't touch the jets. From what I could find people say this is commonly a problem with the spark arrestor being plugged up with carbon. So I barely got the spark screen off because the muffler was blocked by the dogs and a bunch of oil leaked out with saw in upright position. Angled the saw bar up and torched the spark screen .
That did nothing. The screen honestly looked fine I knew that wasn't it.
So I look at the throttle cable and low/behold the throttle screw isnt moving a mm. The plastic seat for the throttle cable was brittle and must have split in half allowing the throttle cable to come loose from its mount which gave no pull on the cable. Soooooo I improvised.
I took electric tape and made a big wad around the sweetspot where the throttle started to pull. Once the wad was wrapped I made a angled wrap around where the seat fits into the mount on the saw to keep it from jiggling. Then I adjusted the screw until it reached its max from me holding down the trigger. Full open throttle.
Started up and she spoke her magic again. I was really hating life when it died. I'm falling this tree with my Mom and brother so I wanted to have this saw working if the Mac SP125 isn't in operation. I'm sure my brother will love to use this saw, glad I could get it figured out.
Hope it doesnt melt. Its in the air intake so me thinks it will go Vrmm Vrrmmm for a while.
